Introducing Supply Finder: Track Availability of Essential Items and Avoid Price Gouging
Protecting consumers against deceptive sellers and price gouging is something we do every day at Popcart. Our users trust us to provide guidance on pricing, seller reputation, availability and more as they shop online.
In recent weeks since the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a global health emergency, shopping for products like hand sanitizer, toilet paper, and other supplies has become more difficult and more expensive. We’ve seen countless cases of price gouging and many sellers have been misrepresenting their products. Even when shoppers have been able to avoid this, trying to find products that are in stock remains a challenge as we all rush to make purchases at the same time.
Given our expertise, we thought we could help prevent misinformation and profiteering during this time of increased need and anxiety. That’s why we created the Popcart Supply Finder, a tool for you to see what’s in stock right now at Amazon, Walmart, and Target and protect yourself from price gouging.
Why did we build Supply Finder?
- We believe all shoppers have a right to fair prices
- We believe you shouldn’t have to overpay to be prepared because of unethical price gouging practices
- We believe searching for supplies and getting accurate inventory information shouldn’t have to feel impossible
By using the Supply Finder, you’ll be able to find a lot of the same pricing and availability guidance we already provide via our browser extension, but we’ve made it openly accessible to anybody who wants to use it. We’ve focused on trying to help you track availability and prices on the things you might be trying to buy online right now like paper towels, cleaning products, pantry staples and more.
When you click on an item in a list, you’ll see product listings we’ve compiled from Amazon, Walmart, and Target. Under each listing you’ll see, price, unit price, retailer, and shipping speed.
As you’re shopping for some of your essentials when preparing for the possibility of a self-quarantine, we want to emphasize two important points that many others, including public health officials, have made: it’s important not to panic, and to avoid stockpiling and hoarding.
Let’s help each other shop smarter and safer in these anxious times. In the coming weeks, we’ll be working to add more helpful information and tools to the Supply Finder like warnings for suspicious third-party sellers and predicted in-stock dates. If you have any questions, comments or ideas, please let us know.
As always, if you have questions, ideas or feedback, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
